The Allen-Bradley 20-COMM-R is a legacy communication adapter designed to provide Remote I/O (RIO) connectivity for PowerFlex 7-Class adjustable frequency AC drives. This adapter allows PowerFlex drives to integrate with older Allen-Bradley PLC systems, such as the PLC5, via the RIO protocol. Product Status (2025)

• Discontinued: The 20-COMM-R was officially discontinued by Rockwell Automation on May 1, 2016, primarily due to RoHS compliance issues.
• Availability: While no longer in production, units are still widely available through secondary automation suppliers and surplus markets as of late 2025.
• Support: Rockwell Automation offers "economy repair services" for this module to support existing installations.
